Description
🔹 Background & Significance
The Pahlavi gold coins were minted during the reign of Reza Shah and Mohammad Reza Shah as both currency and bullion. The 5 Pahlavi represented one of the higher denominations, offering substantial gold content and serving as a store of wealth.
The obverse design features Mohammad Reza Shah’s bust, while the reverse bears the Lion and Sun, a historic emblem of Iran, surmounted by the Pahlavi crown.
These coins were issued until the Iranian Revolution in 1979, after which they were replaced by the Bahar Azadi series. Today, they remain highly collectible and valuable due to both historical heritage and gold weight.
